Albanese Support Slumps in New Poll as One Nation Surges After Bondi Attack

The Resolve survey points to a sharp Labor slide driven by backlash over the Bondi terror response.

Overview

  • Labor’s primary vote fell 5 points to 30% in the Resolve Political Monitor, with the Coalition at 28% and One Nation at 18% in a survey of 1,800 voters conducted January 12–16 with a 2.3-point margin of error.
  • Anthony Albanese’s net performance rating plunged from +6 to −22 and his net likeability dropped to −15, as his preferred–prime minister lead narrowed to 33% versus Sussan Ley’s 29%, and 56% judged his Bondi response poor.
  • On a two-party-preferred basis Labor now leads 52–48, narrowing from 55–45 recorded in December.
  • Support for parties outside Labor and the Coalition reached a record 42% in Resolve, while a separate Newspoll put One Nation at 22%, above the Coalition at 21% and behind Labor at 32%.
  • After earlier resistance, the government split its proposed hate-speech and gun law measures, called a federal royal commission into rising antisemitism, and recalled parliament to advance the legislation and offer formal condolences.
