Alaska Teen Dies in Avalanche, Marking Fourth Fatality in March

Tucker Challan, a 16-year-old from Soldotna, Alaska, died after triggering an avalanche in Turnagain Pass on March 22, 2025.
His body, buried under 10 feet of snow, was recovered on March 23 after unstable conditions delayed rescue efforts.
The avalanche occurred in the Warmup Bowl area of Seattle Ridge, where a known weak snow layer has created hazardous conditions.
This marks the fourth avalanche-related fatality in Alaska this month, following the deaths of three heli-skiers on March 4.
Avalanche experts continue to warn against traveling on or below steep slopes in the region, citing persistent instability in the snowpack.
