Alabama’s Path Tightens With Oklahoma Loss, but Tide Remains in CFP Mix

Updated models keep Alabama in the CFP mix after the Oklahoma setback.

Overview

  • Alabama fell to Oklahoma 23-21 on Nov. 15, a second loss that reduced its margin for error without ending playoff hopes.
  • A win over Auburn on Nov. 29 would secure an SEC championship berth in most scenarios, yet three-way tie permutations could leave Alabama out, and the SEC says no team can clinch before the final weekend.
  • Results elsewhere, including Kentucky vs. Vanderbilt on Nov. 22 and Texas vs. Texas A&M a week later, could sway tiebreakers that currently favor Georgia or Ole Miss in certain multi-team ties.
  • CFP projections from major outlets now place Alabama roughly between No. 6 and No. 10, and ESPN’s Playoff Predictor estimates range from 43% if the Tide lose to Auburn to 96–100% with an SEC title-game appearance.
  • Next up is Eastern Illinois on Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. CT on SEC Network+, followed by the Iron Bowl that will likely determine Alabama’s SEC fate.
