Alabama Republican Charged with Murder and Sexual Torture

Kyle Hayden Lewter, a 36-year-old Alabama Republican and former campaign chairman for state Sen. Tom Butler, has been charged with the murder and sexual torture of 54-year-old Derek Franklin Walls.
The incident occurred last week during a physical altercation between Lewter and Walls, who were acquainted with each other.
Lewter is being held at the Madison County Jail Facility without bond, following Alabama’s Aniah’s Law, which denies bail to violent offenders.
An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of Walls' death, while Lewter faces additional charges of sexual torture involving an inanimate object.
Walls' family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses, as the community and political figures express shock and sadness over the incident.
