Alabama Activates Statewide Emergency Alert System

Overview

• State officials activated the new system on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and published step-by-step enrollment instructions for residents.
• Residents can opt in online through the Alabama EMA ALalert webpage or by texting ALalert or ALinfo to 77295 to receive messages.
• The service will send the same flood and disaster warnings that appear on local TV and radio to cellphones and landlines and is designed to supplement broadcast alerts.
• The launch follows Gov. Kay Ivey’s January pledge of $1.2 million to build the system and her April signing of the Sarah Marsh Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act, both responses to the July 2025 Texas flood that killed 27 people including Alabama child Sarah Marsh.
