Overview
- Nuno Espirito Santo, the former Tottenham manager, has been sacked by Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad after a run of poor results, including six wins out of 12 league games this season and a 2-0 defeat by Air Force Club of Iraq in the Asian Champions League.
- While Santo had a successful tenure at Wolverhampton Wanderers from 2017 to 2021, his reign at Spurs lasted only four months before being replaced by Antonio Conte after losing five of 10 Premier League matches.
- The Portuguese coach led Al-Ittihad to the Saudi title last season, but there were reports of a strained relationship with former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema who joined the Saudi club in June.
- Hassan Khalifa, the assistant coach, will take interim charge of the team following Santo's departure.
- Dutch coach Alfred Schreuder has been hinted as a potential replacement for Santo, following rumors after Schreuder's departure from United Arab Emirates club Al Ain.
