Al-Attiyah Back on Top at Dakar as Sanders’ Crash Hands Brabec Bike Lead

A brutal no-service marathon stage through deep dunes reshuffled both classifications.

Overview

  • Mathieu Serradori won Stage 10 in the cars, while Nasser Al-Attiyah finished second and reclaimed the overall lead with a cushion of about 12 minutes over Toyota’s Henk Lategan.
  • Ford’s challenge faltered as Nani Roma lost the rally lead, Carlos Sainz hemorrhaged time with navigation errors and a penalty, and Mattias Ekström stopped with mechanical trouble.
  • On two wheels, Daniel Sanders crashed at around 138 km, sustained a broken collarbone and sternum, and slid from first to fourth overall despite remounting to finish the stage.
  • Ricky Brabec moved into the motorcycle lead by 56 seconds over Luciano Benavides after receiving time credit for stopping to assist Sanders, with Adrien Van Beveren taking the stage win.
  • The second leg of the marathon, run without external assistance, punished navigation and mechanical lapses and leaves three stages for contenders to close the gaps.
