Akron Police Probe Suspected Murder-Suicide After Couple Found Dead

Detectives are seeking public tips in an active investigation.

  • Officers conducting a welfare check just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday found a man and woman dead from gunshot wounds in a home on the 200 block of Casterton Avenue.
  • The victims were identified as Sharleen Kohnke, 60, and her husband, Robert Kohnke, 39, and both were pronounced dead at the scene.
  • The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled Sharleen’s death a homicide from multiple gunshots to the head and determined Robert died by suicide from a single gunshot to the head.
  • Akron police say the deaths appear to be a murder-suicide and report no ongoing threat to the community.
