Akash Network Votes to Move AKT Token From Cosmos to Solana

The core team says the token shift is designed to cut operating costs and tap Solana’s deeper liquidity and DePIN user base.

Overview

  • Governance Proposal #346 won overwhelming community support with about 98% of votes authorizing AKT’s relaunch as a native Solana SPL token.
  • The token will convert at a 1:1 rate with the same total supply and six decimal places preserved, and the change is structured as irreversible.
  • Akash will open a one-way migration portal for the swap after independent audits of the token code and portal, which the project estimates will take roughly two to three weeks.
  • Separately, the Akash marketplace and its workloads will remain on the Cosmos sovereign chain until a later governance vote, additional audits, and operational rehearsals approve a cutover with a planned 90-day overlap.
  • The team cites lower costs and access to Solana’s DePIN ecosystem as the rationale, while key risks include technical integration challenges, the audit outcomes, and the permanent nature of the migration.
