Ajmer Dargah Bomb Email Deemed Hoax After Sweeps as Security Tightens Before Urs

Investigators are tracing a message invoking Vladimir Putin that also named Kudankulam.

Overview

  • An email received at the Ajmer Collectorate on December 4 claimed four RDX IEDs were planted at the Ajmer Dargah, the Collectorate and the Kudankulam nuclear plant, timed to detonate on Vladimir Putin’s arrival.
  • Police evacuated the shrine and the Collectorate as CID, ATS, bomb disposal teams and dog squads conducted coordinated searches using scanners and metal detectors.
  • No explosives were found at either Ajmer site, and access to the Dargah resumed after roughly two to three hours, officials said.
  • Authorities are treating the warning as a hoax while cyber and local units work to trace the sender and verify the email’s origin.
  • Vigilance remains elevated in Ajmer ahead of the 814th Urs pilgrimage from December 17, given expected large crowds and the shrine’s past security sensitivities.
