Overview

• Unidentified individuals used an earthmover around 2:30 am on May 26 to uproot the life-size statue of former CM Ajit Jogi from Jyotipur square.
• The statue was found discarded in the Gaurela municipality office premises later that morning before supporters located it.
• Gaurela police registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for theft and dishonestly taking movable property without consent.
• Amit Jogi and his supporters staged a protest demanding the statue’s reinstatement within 24 hours and secured its return by around 6 pm on May 26.
• Investigations are under way to identify those responsible for the removal and to review the May 22 municipal notice ordering the statue’s removal.
