Ajay Singhal Takes Charge as Haryana DGP With Two-Year Tenure

The appointment followed a UPSC panel under Supreme Court guidelines to ensure fixed‑tenure, rules‑based leadership.

Overview

  • Singhal formally assumed charge in Panchkula, received a guard of honour, and conducted a handover attended by outgoing DGP O. P. Singh.
  • He set priorities that include a prevention-focused push against organised gangs and narcotics, a stronger cybercrime response, reorganisation of the Special Task Force, action against the land mafia, pursuit of about 10,000 proclaimed offenders, and a zero-tolerance stance on extortion calls.
  • He announced a 'Madadgar/May I Help You' night-assistance initiative and said hotspot-driven policing for crimes against women and Dalits will continue under Operations Trackdown and Hotspot.
  • Following his appointment, the state issued senior-IPS postings and transfers, including Alok Mittal as Director General, Prisons; Arshinder Singh Chawla as Director General, State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau; Kalaramachandran to head the Police Academy; and C. S. Rao as ADGP, Human Rights and Litigation.
  • In a parallel move under the fixed-tenure framework, Maharashtra named former NIA chief Sadanand Vasant Date as state DGP for a two-year term.
