The state chose the 1992-batch officer from a UPSC-empanelled list, giving him a protected two-year term.

Overview

  • An official order from the Haryana home department, issued by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Sumita Misra, takes effect immediately and fixes the tenure from the date he assumes charge.
  • Singhal, a 1992-batch IPS officer, previously headed the Haryana State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and is due to retire in October 2028.
  • He succeeds O P Singh, who retired on December 31 after serving as officiating DGP since October 14.
  • The UPSC panel sent to the state named Shatrujeet Singh Kapur, Ajay Singhal and Alok Mittal, from which the government selected Singhal.
  • During his brief stint, O P Singh emphasized public-trust policing, digital outreach and crackdowns on organised crime and narcotics, which officials indicate the force will seek to consolidate.
