Ajay Singhal Appointed Haryana DGP With Two-Year Minimum Term

The state chose the 1992-batch officer from a UPSC panel prepared under Supreme Court guidelines.

Overview

  • An official order said Ajay Singhal assumes charge immediately, succeeding O P Singh, who retired on December 31.
  • The UPSC empanelled three officers—Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, Ajay Singhal and Alok Mittal—and the governor approved Singhal's appointment.
  • Singhal most recently headed Haryana's State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau and has previously served in intelligence, crime and district policing roles.
  • Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor’s inclusion on the UPSC panel came despite an FIR against him in the Y Puran Kumar suicide case, drawing fresh attention to the controversy.
  • The government also issued new postings, naming Narendra Bijarniya as Karnal SP and Ganga Ram Punia as SP, Anti-Corruption Bureau, and transferring six HPS officers.
