Overview

• Bhalla took the oath at Raj Bhavan in Kohima, administered by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar.
• Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief ministers, ministers and MLAs attended the ceremony, after which Bhalla met the state cabinet and reviewed a guard of honour.
• The CoRRP, representing the Angami, Ao, Lotha, Rengma and Sumi apex bodies, did not attend and continues a boycott of official events.
• Tribal leaders seek an independent, representative commission to review the 1977 job-reservation system, rejecting the cabinet’s seven-member panel led by a retired IAS officer.
• Bhalla’s additional charge was assigned by President Droupadi Murmu on August 16 following the death of Governor La. Ganesan on August 15.
