AJ Armstrong Sentenced to Life for Parents' Murder, Maintains Innocence
Conviction followed discovery of key evidence, Armstrong currently appealing the verdict.
- AJ Armstrong, son of the deceased former American football linebacker Antonio Armstrong, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his parents, Antonio and Dawn Armstrong, in 2023.
- The murders took place on July 29, 2016, when AJ Armstrong was 16. He called 911 and reported hearing gunshots from his parents' bedroom. The couple was found shot, with Dawn already dead and Antonio succumbing to his injuries later.
- Despite being tried twice with both trials ending in mistrials, AJ Armstrong was eventually convicted after a key piece of evidence was discovered. A visitor's badge sticker placed on AJ Armstrong's shirt when he was first questioned by police was found to have small reddish brown circular stains, which preliminary tests indicated was blood.
- Armstrong is currently held in the Robertson Unit, a maximum-security prison in Abilene, Texas. He will be eligible for parole 40 years from now.
- Armstrong maintains his innocence and is currently appealing the conviction.
