Overview

  • On July 17, the Athletics Integrity Unit issued a formal Notice of Charge and imposed its own provisional suspension following months of investigation.
  • A urine sample collected on March 14 tested positive for hydrochlorothiazide at an estimated concentration of 3,800 ng/mL, far above the World Anti-Doping Agency’s 20 ng/mL threshold.
  • Chepngetich voluntarily suspended herself on April 19 and was interviewed in person by AIU head Brett Clothier on April 16 as part of the inquiry.
  • Under WADA regulations, hydrochlorothiazide is classified as a specified substance and carries a standard two-year sanction if a violation is confirmed.
  • Her 2:09:56 Chicago Marathon world record from October 2024 now faces review as the case proceeds without a set timetable for resolution.
