Overview

  • At least nine Thai civilians were killed and 14 others wounded in renewed July 24 border firefights across three northeastern provinces.
  • Thailand launched F-16 strikes on Cambodian military targets near Preah Vihear temple and other disputed outposts.
  • Gun battles, rocket and artillery exchanges broke out in at least six sectors as both armies accused the other of firing first and deploying drones and heavy weapons.
  • Both governments have recalled ambassadors, expelled envoys and sealed all land crossings along the undemarcated frontier.
  • The latest surge followed two landmine blasts this month that injured Thai soldiers and prompted formal protests over alleged Cambodian-laid Russian-made mines.
