AirPods Can Now Control iPhone and iPad Cameras With iOS 26

Setup lives in AirPods settings under Camera Remote.

Overview

  • The feature works only with AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3, and older models are not supported.
  • Users choose either Press Once or Press and Hold for the stem gesture, with each option temporarily disabling certain AirPods controls during camera use.
  • AirPods can trigger the shutter for photos and start or stop video recording, but third-party camera apps must add explicit support.
  • In supported apps, AirPods can serve as the recording microphone when selected via Control Center or app settings.
  • Behavior such as the three‑second timer and shutter tones can vary by region, and Camera Remote settings sync across devices signed into the same Apple ID.
