Airlines Split on Venezuela Routes After FAA Warning

Several Latin American and European carriers say schedules remain unchanged despite the FAA risk advisory.

Overview

  • The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued a NOTAM warning of flight risks around Venezuela, effective November 21, 2025 through February 19, 2026, citing deteriorating security and increased military activity.
  • Six carriers canceled services to Venezuela following the advisory, including Iberia, TAP, LATAM, Avianca, GOL and Caribbean Airlines, according to AFP citing the Venezuelan Association of Airlines.
  • Nine airlines announced they are continuing operations as scheduled, including Avior, Conviasa, Estelar, Laser Airlines, Wingo, Copa Airlines, Air Europa, Plus Ultra and Turkish Airlines.
  • Airlines that kept flying said they are maintaining operational safety, continuing ticket sales and monitoring conditions despite the U.S. notice.
  • U.S. officials frame heightened regional military activity as counter-narcotics operations, as reports detail recent destruction of suspected drug boats and President Trump says Washington does not plan to go to war with Caracas.
