Airbus Sets Record with Over 2,000 Plane Orders in 2023

Despite supply chain issues, the European planemaker outperforms US rival Boeing, delivering 735 jets and securing major contracts with airlines including IndiGo, Air India, and Turkish Airlines.

  • Airbus secured a record 2,094 net plane orders in 2023, smashing its previous record from 2013 of 1,503 planes.
  • Despite supply chain issues, Airbus delivered 735 jets in 2023, surpassing its target of 720 deliveries.
  • Major contracts were secured with India's low-cost IndiGo, which ordered 500 A320s, the biggest civil aviation order in history, as well as Air India (250 planes) and Turkish Airlines (230 planes).
  • Airbus's performance outperformed its US rival Boeing, which secured 1,314 net orders and delivered 528 aircraft in 2023.
  • Airbus has begun development of a successor to the popular A320 family for the second half of the 2030s, and is aiming to launch a hydrogen-powered plane, which would emit no CO2, toward 2035.
