Airbus Opens Second A320 Final Assembly Line in Mobile, Doubling Local Capacity

The expansion supports Airbus’s 2027 plan to build 75 A320-family jets per month to reduce a roughly 7,100-aircraft backlog.

Overview

  • The new line adds about 1,000 jobs, taking Mobile’s headcount above 2,000 with hiring expected to reach roughly 3,100 as the ramp progresses.
  • Local officials said the expansion doubles A320 output to 16 aircraft a year and lifts total campus production to about 20 annually, including four A220s.
  • Airbus cited improving supply chain conditions, saying 98% of suppliers are meeting requested rates and setting a delivery goal of 820 aircraft in 2025.
  • The project secured more than $51 million in state and local tax incentives to support the manufacturing buildout in Alabama.
  • New infrastructure spans double- and quad-bay hangars, added paint shops, a distribution center, an expanded transshipment hangar and delivery center, and a welcome center.
