Airbus Nears Completion of A320 Software Repairs as New Quality Checks Hit Shares

Fewer than 100 jets still await the elevator-control update after regulators warned of a potential structural-limit exceedance.

Overview

  • Airbus said the required software corrections have been completed on the majority of roughly 6,000 affected A320-family aircraft, leaving fewer than 100 to finish.
  • EASA identified the problem as an elevator-control software defect that, if left unaddressed, could push the aircraft beyond structural performance limits.
  • On Nov. 28, Airbus instructed operators to install the fix immediately and apologized as maintenance actions triggered cancellations and delays.
  • ANA reported 95 domestic cancellations affecting about 13,200 passengers in Japan during the work, and Fukuoka airport said operations have returned to normal.
  • Reuters reported inspections for a separate fuselage-panel quality issue on a subset of jets, and Airbus shares fell as much as about 11% intraday before closing around 6% lower on Dec. 1.
