Air Transat To Suspend Flights Before Possible Pilots’ Strike on Dec. 10

The carrier is pausing operations to avoid stranding travelers ahead of the strike window.

Overview

  • ALPA filed a 72-hour notice that allows a walkout as early as 3 a.m. ET on Wednesday once the cooling-off period ends.
  • Air Transat says it will progressively cancel flights Dec. 8–9 and fully halt operations by Dec. 9 as negotiations continue.
  • Management says it has offered a 59% pay increase over five years with major improvements to working conditions, an offer the union disputes.
  • Pilots backed job action with about 98% turnout and 99% support as they seek a modern contract to replace a 2015 agreement covering pay, work rules and job security.
  • The airline issued guidance on refunds, credits and repatriation, warning of peak-season disruption across a network of nearly 40 aircraft operating more than 500 flights weekly.
