Air SNES: Nike Air Max 90 Turned Into a Working Super Nintendo

The anniversary tribute runs on a Raspberry Pi Zero W with RetroPie inside the tongue.

Overview

  • Designer Gustavo Bonzanini created the custom sneaker to mark the Super Nintendo’s 35th anniversary.
  • All electronics and a battery are housed in the tongue, enabling roughly 30 minutes of gameplay.
  • The build uses emulation on a Raspberry Pi Zero W to keep the console experience wearable.
  • Connectivity includes Mini HDMI plus a small analog converter for RCA output to televisions.
  • Controls support an original SNES gamepad or an 8BitDo Mod Kit for Bluetooth use, and there are no plans to commercialize the design.
