Overview

  • Metro Vancouver kept a smog advisory for eastern parts of the region and extended air-quality warnings across the Central and Eastern Fraser Valley, with notices expected to last at least into Tuesday.
  • Smoke from the Sailor Bar wildfire north of Yale has elevated fine particulate levels, while hot, sunny conditions and local emissions are driving ground-level ozone.
  • The Sailor Bar blaze is about 120 hectares and burning out of control roughly seven kilometres north of Yale, prompting evacuation alerts on both sides of the Fraser River between Yale and Spuzzum.
  • The Spuzzum First Nation issued alerts for several reserves, advising residents to be ready to leave on short notice, and the BC Wildfire Service says the fire is believed to be human-caused.
  • Environment Canada forecasts 37–39 C this week for the Fraser Canyon and South Thompson as BC Wildfire Service warns rapidly drying fuels and a growing risk of dry lightning could increase fire activity.
