Air India’s ‘Forgotten’ 737 Leaves Kolkata After 13 Years for Training in Bengaluru

The jet had dropped off Air India’s books during privatisation, exposing an asset-tracking lapse.

Overview

  • The 43-year-old Boeing 737-200 (VT-EHH) was moved on November 14 and transported by tractor-trailer to Bengaluru.
  • Air India sold the aircraft to Bangalore International Airport Ltd for use in maintenance engineer training at its MRO facility.
  • CEO Campbell Wilson told staff the plane had slipped from company records during the airline’s privatisation.
  • This was the only recently disposed Air India airframe sold with its Pratt & Whitney engines still attached.
  • Kolkata airport recovered nearly Rs 1 crore in parking fees, freed space for a proposed new hangar, and now has only two defunct Alliance Air ATRs on site.
