Air India Fined Rs 1.1 Crore for Safety Violations

Airline disputes DGCA's order, claims no compromise on safety

  • Air India has been fined Rs 1.1 crore by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for safety-related violations on flights operated on certain long-range terrain critical routes.
  • The violations were flagged by an airline employee and were related to leased aircraft not following performance limits laid down by the manufacturer.
  • This is the second time in a week that Air India has faced penalties by the DGCA, with a previous fine of Rs 30 lakh for poor preparedness leading to fog delays.
  • Air India has disputed the order, stating that there was no compromise on safety and that it is reviewing its options, including the right to appeal.
  • The violations specifically pertain to non-compliance of regulations and safety manuals in case of oxygen-related compliant requirements for operation of leased Boeing B777 aircraft.
