Air India Extends Saudi Flight Suspensions to Oct. 24

The airline cited continuing safety risks after Houthi missile and drone strikes on Saudi airports and said it will offer refunds, one‑time date changes and alternative Gulf rebookings.

Overview

  • Air India and Air India Express announced on Oct. 17 that flights to and from Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam will remain suspended through Oct. 24 and that affected passengers can choose full refunds or one free date change.
  • The carriers also allow rebooking from alternative Gulf Cooperation Council airports such as Dubai and Doha, but travellers must arrange their own transport and meet visa requirements for those departure points.
  • Other Indian airlines have also extended suspensions, with IndiGo and Akasa pausing multiple Saudi routes through Oct. 24 and several international carriers cancelling or delaying services to Riyadh and other Saudi cities.
  • The step follows a series of Houthi strikes on Saudi civil aviation infrastructure, including the Oct. 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport that raised the death toll to 13 after the Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed an injured Indian national had died.
  • Aviation authorities including the ICAO Council have condemned attacks on civilian airports, and analysts warn the strikes could prolong airspace disruptions and ripple into shipping and energy flows with wider economic and humanitarian consequences.
