Overview

  • The Air Force Test Center’s active solicitation requests two Tesla Cybertrucks among 33 range targets for live-fire testing at White Sands Missile Range.
  • All other targets can be generic sedans, pickups, SUVs and light trucks, making Cybertrucks the only brand-specified platforms in the package.
  • A February 13 market research study found the Cybertruck’s unpainted stainless-steel exoskeleton, angular design and 48-volt electrical architecture unmatched by competitors.
  • A formal sole-source justification argues that adversaries may adopt resilient electric vehicles that sustain less damage on impact and that training must mirror real-world scenarios.
  • The target vehicles will be used to evaluate AGM-114 Hellfire and AGM-176 Griffin missiles as well as GBU-69/B Small Glide Munitions and GBU-39B/B Laser Small Diameter Bombs.
