Overview
- A Dec. 2 memo from Secretary Troy Meink and Gen. Ken Wilsbach cancels Air Development Command, the Air Base Wing concept, a new Program Assessment and Evaluation Office, and three proposed AFMC centers.
- Plans to convert Air Forces Central, Air Forces Northern/Space, and Air Forces Southern into service component commands are scrapped, and 12th Air Force will be re-established as a numbered Air Force inside Air Combat Command.
- Air Combat Command will not be reoriented and Air Education and Training Command keeps its name and role, while wings adopt an Air Expeditionary Wing 2.0 model and retain group commanders in garrison.
- Of 19 Air Force-focused changes, eight will continue and 10 are terminated, with warrant officers, department-level exercises in the Indo-Pacific, and multi-capable Airmen training among the retained initiatives.
- Integration work shifts to smaller offices including SAF/IC and AFMC’s Integrated Development Office, the Integrated Capabilities Command is dissolved, and its function moves into HAF A5/7 with a chief modernization officer targeted by April 1, 2026, as a former defense official warns of remaining integration gaps.
