Air Canada Flight Attendants Overwhelmingly Reject Wage Offer, Triggering Mediation

A prearranged process shifts wages to mediation, keeping service running.

Overview

  • The union said 99.1% of more than 10,000 voting members rejected the wage portion, with turnout reported at about 94.6%.
  • Under the agreement, wages now move to mediation and, if unresolved, to binding arbitration by the Canada Industrial Relations Board.
  • Flights will continue with no strike or lockout during the mediation–arbitration process, according to Air Canada.
  • Non‑wage terms remain in effect, including new ground pay of 60 minutes on narrowbodies and 70 minutes on widebodies, starting at 50% of hourly rate and rising to 70% by year four.
  • The rejected four‑year wage plan proposed initial increases of 12% for junior attendants and 8% for senior staff, following a three‑day August strike that led to widespread cancellations and union criticism of federal intervention.
