Air Canada Eliminates Carry-On Bags for Basic Fare Passengers
Starting January 3, 2025, the airline’s lowest-priced tickets will no longer include carry-on luggage, with new fees introduced for seat selection and bag checks.
- Air Canada announced that passengers purchasing the basic fare for North American and sun destination routes will be restricted to one personal item, such as a purse or laptop bag, starting January 3, 2025.
- Larger carry-on items like roller bags and duffel bags must be checked for a fee, with charges set at C$35 for the first bag and C$50 for a second bag.
- Passengers arriving at the gate with ineligible carry-on items will face a higher fee of C$65 to check their bags.
- Basic fare customers will also be required to pay for seat selection if they wish to change the seat assigned at check-in, with pricing dependent on the seat chosen.
- The changes align Air Canada’s fare structure with other Canadian carriers and come as the airline increases checked baggage allowances for its comfort economy fare on global routes.
