AIIMS Removes CTVS Head A.K. Bisoi From Administrative Charge Pending Inquiry

The move follows a nursing officer’s complaint escalated by the AIIMS Nurses’ Union to the PMO, prompting an internal probe.

Overview

  • AIIMS Director M. Srinivas issued an October 11 order relieving Dr A.K. Bisoi of departmental charge and appointing senior professor Dr V. Devagourou to lead CTVS till further orders.
  • The complaint alleges repeated use of abusive, vulgar and sexist language toward female staff and claims nurses were intimidated and threatened for raising concerns.
  • Union representations were filed on September 30, October 4 and October 7, with the matter escalated to the Prime Minister’s Office on October 9 after seeking action internally.
  • An internal inquiry, reported to involve the institute’s complaints mechanism, has been set up to examine the harassment and intimidation allegations, with no outcome announced yet.
  • Reports note earlier controversies tied to Dr Bisoi, including a 2009 suspension by the Health Ministry and a 2019 probe, alongside his long, high-profile career and national awards.
