AIIMS Removes CTVS Head After Harassment Complaint, Hands Charge to Dr V. Devagourou

The case follows union allegations of vulgar language toward female staff.

Overview

  • AIIMS issued an order relieving Professor A.K. Bisoi of the CTVS head charge with immediate effect and assigned departmental leadership to senior professor V. Devagourou till further orders.
  • A female nursing officer’s complaint, supported by the AIIMS Nurses’ Union, alleges repeated use of abusive, sexist language during rounds and intimidation of nurses.
  • The union reported that Dr Bisoi threatened to “teach a lesson” to those who complained and warned of removing the complainant from her clinical posting in retaliation.
  • After union representations on September 30, October 4, and October 7 drew no action, the matter was escalated to the Prime Minister’s Office on October 9, triggering administrative steps at AIIMS.
  • AIIMS has referred the allegations to an internal inquiry/ICC, investigations are underway, and Dr Bisoi did not respond to media requests; past disciplinary episodes from 2009, 2012, and 2019 were cited by the union.
