AIFF Puts Forward ISL Overhaul With 22-Member Council as Season Nears

The federation has sought AFC guidance on continental slots due to a 13-match schedule this season.

Overview

  • The ISL Governance Charter was sent to all 14 clubs, with feedback and nominations requested this week to constitute the bodies before the February 14 kickoff.
  • The 22-member governing council would include 14 club owners, three AIFF office-bearers, three commercial partner nominees and two independent members, with the chair drawn from the AIFF leadership.
  • A management committee of at least 11 members, led by the AIFF secretary-general, would run daily operations with five club CEOs, including representatives from last season’s winner and runner-up, plus AIFF and commercial partner members.
  • Decision rules require simple majorities with mandated AIFF affirmative votes for most items, stricter thresholds for large or long-term agreements, and 75% approval with AIFF votes for distribution of central revenue and prize money.
  • The proposal introduces relegation for this season, sets three-season terms for members, schedules monthly meetings for the management committee, and permits dissolution of the governance bodies only by the AIFF executive committee.
