AIFF Panel to Report to Supreme Court After ISL Tender Draws No Bids

Onerous 15-year terms deterred bidders, deepening uncertainty for clubs.

Overview

  • After the November 7 deadline passed without proposals, the AIFF confirmed it received no bids for the Indian Super League’s commercial rights tender.
  • The Bid Evaluation Committee met on November 9 and its chair, Justice (Retd.) L. Nageswara Rao, will submit a report to the Supreme Court outlining subsequent steps.
  • The RFP required a 15-year partnership, a minimum net worth of ₹250 crore, and an annual guarantee of ₹37.5 crore or 5% of gross revenue, along with extensive operational duties including match production, phased VAR rollout, promotion and relegation, and parachute payments.
  • Reigning champions Mohun Bagan suspended first-team operations pending clarity, while other clubs have reportedly paused activities or faced salary issues; East Bengal is continuing preparations and has publicly urged the BCCI to support the sport.
  • The previous FSDL agreement ends on December 8, putting league financing, grassroots programs, and national-team funding at risk without a replacement commercial framework.
