Sunrisers used their Right to Match at $720,000, but Durban’s Super Giants secured him with a $806,500 bid at the SA20 auction.
The price briefly set an SA20 auction record before Pretoria Capitals landed Dewald Brevis for $950,600.
Durban are rebuilding after winning two of 10 games in Season 3 and open Season 4 against defending champions MI Cape Town at Newlands on December 26.
Markram praised Durban’s squad depth, citing Jos Buttler, Heinrich Klaasen, Kwena Maphaka, Gerald Coetzee, Sunil Narine and Noor Ahmad.
