Overview

• On June 2, AIADMK general secretary KP Munusamy officially announced former MLAs M Dhanapal and IS Inbadurai as the party’s two nominees for the June 19 biennial Rajya Sabha election.

• With 62 MLAs plus four BJP allies, AIADMK-BJP support secures the opposition’s two-seat target while the DMK-led bloc’s 159 MLAs position it to win four seats.
• Six Tamil Nadu MPs, including PMK’s Anbumani Ramadoss and MDMK’s Vaiko, will retire on July 24, creating the vacancies at stake in this cycle.
