Councilman Uses ChatGPT to Draft Proposal, Sparking Debate on AI in Public Policy

Porto Alegre, Brazil's city council has enacted an ordinance written entirely by AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
Councilman Ramiro Rosário asked ChatGPT to craft a proposal to prevent the city from charging taxpayers to replace stolen water consumption meters.
The proposal was unanimously approved by the council and went into effect on Nov. 23.
Rosário did not reveal the AI origin of the proposal to his peers, fearing it wouldn't have been taken to a vote.
The incident has sparked a debate about the role of artificial intelligence in public policy.
