Overview

  • The Intelligent Traffic Management System uses AI cameras, 40 gantries, ANPR and weigh-in-motion sensors funded by ₹45 crore from the Road Safety Fund to enforce 17 violation categories.
  • Since its July 2024 launch, ITMS has issued 27.76 lakh e-challans totalling ₹470 crore for speeding and other traffic violations.
  • Only ₹51 crore—around 11 percent—of the issued fines has been recovered, exposing significant gaps between enforcement and collection.
  • Cars led the violations with 17.2 lakh e-challans, followed by heavy goods carriers (3.27 lakh), buses (2.48 lakh) and taxis (2 lakh).
  • Transporters suspended their June–July strike after authorities formed a government panel to consider raising Khandala Ghat limits from the current 60 km/h for cars and 40 km/h for heavy vehicles.
