Overview

  • The latest ITU–WBA report finds that AI applications are the main driver behind rising greenhouse gas emissions among 200 major tech firms.
  • Deutsche Telekom placed 18th in global emissions and earned high marks for transparency by disclosing targets, data and performance.
  • China Mobile and Amazon lead the ranking of top emitters, followed by Samsung Electronics, China Telecom, China Unicom and TSMC.
  • Data centers consumed 1.5% of global electricity in 2024 and saw their power use grow about 12% per year between 2017 and 2023, four times faster than overall demand.
