AI-Driven Brand Impersonation Scams Hit Most UK Consumers as Losses Per Victim Soar

Fresh UK data shows AI-enhanced impersonation is making scams harder to spot, increasing losses per victim.

  • About 70% of UK adults report receiving scam messages that appeared to come from delivery firms, banks or government bodies, according to a TransUnion survey conducted by YouGov.
  • More than half of those targeted (56%) believe the attempts used AI techniques such as fake voices or images.
  • Around 9% say they lost money to brand impersonation, and more than one in ten of those victims (11%) lost at least £1,000.
  • Adyen reports an average loss of £757.64 among affected UK shoppers over the past year and a 144% year-on-year surge in value stolen per shopper.
