AI Analysis Reveals Part of Famous Raphael Painting Not by the Master

The face of Joseph in the Madonna della Rosa was likely painted by another artist, according to the AI tool developed by Professor Hassan Ugail.

Artificial intelligence (AI) analysis has determined that a famous Raphael painting, the Madonna della Rosa, features a face that was not created by the Renaissance master.
The AI algorithm, developed by Professor Hassan Ugail at the University of Bradford, recognizes authentic works by Raphael with 98% accuracy.
The analysis revealed that while most of the painting is by Raphael, the face of Joseph is most likely not by the same hand.
The AI program analysis concluded that the three figures of the Madonna, Christ Child and St John the Baptist are unequivocally painted by Raphael, but that of St Joseph is not.
The AI tool is seen as an additional method for authenticating art, alongside traditional methods such as spectroscopy and provenance research.
