Ahmednagar Railway Station Renamed Ahilyanagar After Centre Approval
The move honors Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar in her 300th birth-anniversary year.
Overview
- The Maharashtra government issued the notification on September 12 following clearance from the Union Home Ministry.
 - The change brings the station’s name in line with the already renamed district of Ahilyanagar.
 - Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who pushed the proposal and wrote to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw last month, thanked Vaishnaw and Home Minister Amit Shah for approvals.
 - A statement from Pawar’s office credited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde with helping secure the decision.
 - Local organisations and residents had sought the update, and Pawar said work continues on renaming Aurangabad station to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
