Ahmedabad Rural SOG Seizes Nearly 3 kg of Banned Ambergris, Arrests Two Suspects

After forest and forensic confirmation, the material was transferred to Sanand’s Forest Department for prosecution under wildlife laws

Overview

  • On August 17, Ahmedabad Rural SOG officers intercepted two men near Gibpura village on the SarkhejSanand Highway and recovered 2.976 kg of ambergris
  • The arrested suspects, 30-year-old Yogeshbhai Tulshibhai Makwana and 37-year-old Pantukumaar Bharatbhai Patel, were also found with two mobile phones and ₹700 in cash
  • Forest officials and Forensic Science Laboratory experts authenticated the sperm whale–derived substance and estimated its international market value at about ₹2.97 crore
  • During questioning, the duo implicated Bhavnagar resident Bharatbhai Vallabhbhai Sarvaiya as their supplier as authorities extend probes into the trafficking network
  • This is the third ambergris seizure in Ahmedabad district over the past three-and-a-half months, bringing the total to approximately 7.88 kg with prosecutions under the Wildlife Protection Act underway
