Overview
- An August 2025 Harris Poll of 4,007 U.S. adults found only 12% had heard of cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic (CKM) syndrome.
- Nearly 90% of adults have at least one CKM risk factor, including high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, high blood sugar, excess weight or reduced kidney function.
- The AHA says combined heart, kidney and metabolic risks raise chances of heart attack, stroke and heart failure more than any single factor, and most cases are reversible with lifestyle changes and appropriate treatment.
- Public interest is strong, with 79% saying understanding CKM is important and 72% wanting to learn more.
- Many misunderstand coordinated care—68% favor managing conditions one by one or are unsure, and 42% doubt other organs affect heart health—prompting the AHA to roll out new CKM education resources.
