Agostina Hein Claims World Junior Silver in 800 Free After Record 400 IM Crown

The 17-year-old’s 400 IM in 4:34.34 in Otopeni broke Georgina Bardach’s 2004 South American record.

Overview

  • Hein clocked a personal best of 8:26.19 to take silver in the 800m freestyle, trailing China’s Yang Peiqi (8:22.93) with Kseniia Misharina third (8:29.50).
  • Her 800m time left her less than two seconds from Delfina Pignatiello’s Argentine record of 8:24.33.
  • A day earlier she won the 400m individual medley title in 4:34.34, setting championship, Argentine and South American records and surpassing Bardach’s 4:37.51 from Athens 2004.
  • That 400 IM performance would have earned bronze in the Paris 2024 Olympic final, highlighting the global relevance of her time.
  • After a rest day on Thursday, she is slated to race the 400m freestyle heats and the 200m individual medley on Friday at the World Junior Championships.
