AGCO Proposes 60-Day Suspension of Windsor Bar’s Liquor Licence After Fatal Crash Linked to Over-Service

The bar can appeal the proposed penalty to the Licence Appeal Tribunal within 15 days.

Overview

  • Ontario’s alcohol regulator issued a Notice of Proposal seeking a 60-day suspension for Just Your Average Joes Sports Bar in Windsor.
  • AGCO inspectors concluded a patron consumed at least ten alcoholic drinks at the bar before leaving and later being involved in a fatal collision.
  • The crash occurred on Sept. 7, 2024, about 500 metres from the bar, killing a 39-year-old motorcyclist and injuring a 35-year-old passenger.
  • Windsor police arrested the other driver, who showed signs of intoxication and failed a breath test, and charged him with impaired driving causing death and bodily harm.
  • AGCO alleges the licensee permitted intoxication contrary to Regulation 746/21, subsection 43(1), reflecting broader provincial scrutiny of over-service cases.
