Aga Khan IV Laid to Rest in Egypt Following His Passing at 88

The 49th Ismaili Imam, Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, was buried at a private ceremony in Aswan, Egypt, as his son, Rahim Aga Khan V, assumes leadership of the Ismaili Muslim community.

• Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, spiritual leader of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community, passed away on February 4, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88.
• A private burial ceremony took place in Aswan, Egypt, near the mausoleum of his grandfather, Aga Khan III, as per his will.
• The Aga Khan IV was a prominent philanthropist and businessman, leading the Aga Khan Development Network, which operates in over 30 countries focusing on health, education, and rural development.
• He was widely regarded for his efforts to bridge Muslim and Western societies, promoting pluralism and cultural understanding during his decades-long leadership.
• His son, Rahim Aga Khan V, has been named as the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community, continuing the family’s 1,300-year lineage.
